Frequently Asked Questions
ChargerMate is an EV charging network with a difference. We believe that the future of destination
chargers in Australia is small, independent operators, rather than large organisations or councils.
We put operators first, and focus on reducing costs and installation hassles, so that you can start making a profit from your EV charger as quickly and easily as possible.

Given a suitable location, anyone can run an EV charger and turn their power into profit.
The massive increase in the uptake of electric vehicles has led to a demand for many more chargers of all types around Australia. This presents a very unique opportunity for individuals and small businesses, where for the first time in history, they can set themselves up to be a “petrol bowser”.

The ChargerMate service integrates seamlessly with your internet-connected charger. Once set up, you
can decide whether you want your EV chargepoint to be available on our directory of public charging
stations, or you simply want a “private” charger for home or business use.
You can choose to enable payments on your charger if you wish, which are all processed through our trusted payment gateway, Stripe. Rates for different times of the day can be set as well, to ensure that you get the best possible profit margins out of your chargepoint and can take advantage of cheaper rates from your energy provider.

ChargerMate is a fully fledged EV chargepoint management system. Once connected to your OCPP enabled
charging station, you will be able to perform many functions such as:
- Add as many home or business based chargers as you like.
- Monitor your charging sessions remotely.
- Be notified if charging ends for any reason.
- Set a limit for when you would like to stop charging.
- Invite others in order to give them permission to use your charger.
- Switch your charger between public and private at any time.
- Enable paid charging via Stripe.
- Set different pricing for time of day as needed.
- View a full set of charging data and statistics.
Our aim is to support as many different OCPP enabled chargers as possible. To date we have done
extensive testing with 2 different models:
If you have a different make/model of OCPP charger, please feel free to get in touch, and let’s get it working!
The beauty of the OCPP protocol is that your charger should work with ChargerMate “out of the box”. In the event that it doesn't, it normally only takes a couple of small modifications on our end to get things working as they should.

The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an open-source communication standard for EV charging
stations and network software companies. Simply put, any EV charging station that is OCPP-compliant
can be configured to run any similarly OCPP-compliant software.
Established in 2009 by the Open Charge Alliance, OCPP is designed to be a free, open-source, and easy to implement protocol that ensures all participants are speaking the same language. As a result, it has become the global benchmark for interoperability throughout the EV charging industry.
For more information on OCPP, please see openchargealliance.org

Compatible EV chargers cost as little as $900 + installation, and can be run off a normal
residential power supply.
Once your charger is all up and running, ChargerMate will take a small (10%) commission on any paid charging sessions that your charger delivers. If you don’t charge drivers for the power, then the whole charging experience is on us (you’re welcome ;)).
We recommend consulting with your preferred local electrician before purchasing a charger. Once they have confirmed that your electricity supply, switchboard, and preferred installation location is all up to standard, then please check out our supported chargers list to find the charger that works best for you.

Yes! ChargerMate is designed for both home and commercial use. You can even use the same account
for both your home charger and any other chargers you either operate or use as a driver.
You can! When setting up your EV charger, you will have the option to set it as either private or
public (for example, a home charger, or a charger in a public location). You will also have the
option to offer free charging from that chargepoint, or accept secure payments for the energy usage,
via our payments platform partner.
Our top priority is constant improvements in order to help facilitate more and more available
chargers across Australia. We currently have a few new fancy features and improvements in
development and on our roadmap. However, if you have any suggestions for what you would like to see
in ChargerMate, or any feedback on using our system, we would love to hear it!
